I recently had lunch with a dear friend and business partner, in beautiful La Jolla, California. As we looked out over the ocean enjoying our lunch at La Valencia Hotel, we started discussing all the different projects we have in the works. He also owns several different businesses, and we came upon the subject of productivity.
As we discussed this topic, he was shocked to learn my team and I are only in the office 2 days a week at my company, Blue Global Media.
Tuesday’s and Friday’s.
The other 3 days of the week we all work from home!!
Why, do this he asked? “Because we are most happy and productive with this schedule,” I answered. Think of Blue Global like the Bhutan ( The country of Bhutan measures gross domestic happiness!! ) of internet companies, we measure our success by our happiness. The happier our team is, the more we get done. It’s that simple. The office is filled with time killers, meetings, and loads of distractions that do not happen at home.
I asked him when and where are you most most productive? Like most people the last thing that came to mind was the office between 9-5!!
In fact, most people say:
In the office when nobody is there….
On the weekends..
On the plane…
At Home…
And yes, on Vacation…!!!
Anywhere but 9-5 in the office!!
Why is this? I mean we aren’t we truly productive in the office?
